Yes,
that's a tall order and no one is expected to watch them all at once. Please
bookmark this page so that you can return to the videos at your leisure, or
search out Racing Now and Then Tiger Tom Pistone on YouTube. If all goes well
and the Boss lets me live, we'll have some sort of link system on the Home Page
soon. I think everyone will agree though, that there is a lot of sound and sage
advice to be found within those videos. Any comments for Tom left below will be
passed on to Tom and Chrissy, so feel free to do so. Who knows? The answer to
your question might be a part of his next segment.
Moving
off the subject of saving money and straight to the subject of spending lots of
it, we hear that ABC/ESPN and TNT are making noises about being willing to
forego the last year of existing contracts with NASCAR and bow out gracefully
to FOX AND NBC. NASCAR is making similar noises, and so are FOX and NBC... so,
everyone is in agreement and it will soon be a done deal? Um...
no. Not just no, but hell no! Even though it's only a year, we're
talking $Millions and maybe $Billions here. No one will settle and no one is
likely to pay. Sometimes, there are just too many folks involved and the number
of agreements needed to come together over that much money is just prohibitive.
Yes, it sounds good on paper, but every entity mentioned there thinks at least
one of the others owes it money, and the amount increases if the deal is
truncated. In short... not gonna happen.
And then
of course... there's all the goings-on at BBI, or Bad Boys Inc. aka
Stewart-Haas Racing. So far, that team has been the star player in Silly Season
2013, with the latest episode seeing Kurt Busch move from Furniture Row Racing
this year to SHR next year in a newly formed team sponsored solely by Haas
Automation, which translates to team co-owner, Gene Haas. Unlike many of my
brethren, I'm not worried in the least about Ryan Newman. Ryan is a big boy and
will land on his feet... and in my less than expert opinion, whoever gets him
as a driver will be the lucky one in the end. Harkening back though to SHR,
only after the whirlwind romance between Busch and SHR was consummated did we
learn that Tony Stewart did not in fact, know Jack about the whole thing; it
was all Gene Haas' idea and he acted alone.
For
those new to the racing scene, the last time Gene Haas was seriously mentioned
in this column was to award him a Bill Engvall type sign
for firing Ward Burton in order to hire Mike Bliss. Um... how's that working out? There is also a
rumor afoot that Kurt's new number, if it can be obtained (No idea who might
hold it now... MWR?)) will be
00. That was the number run by David Reutimann for
several years for Michael Waltrip Racing. In the Cup series, my mind always
goes immediately to Buckshot Jones when I see that number, but overall, the
number will forever be closely associated with Late Model Sportsman/Busch Champion
and hero, Sam Ard!
OK,
let's look for a minute at what we'll see next year at SHR when Daytona rolls
around. We have Tony Stewart, co-owner and driver of the #14... he of punching reporters and throwing cameras to the ground
fame. We have Kevin Harvick, he of the little yap-yap mouth, who has never
learned to keep it shut and has at least once been suspended for it. We have
Kurt Busch, he that even dared to insult Dr. Jerry Punch, a person near and
dear to the hearts of all in racing. Lastly, along with that stalwart trio, we
have Danica Patrick, she with the sharp, pointy finger, willing to poke
anyone's chest with it. My guess is that though we're not hearing it at this
moment, there are some strained feelings at the very least between co-owners
Stewart and Haas, most all on the part of Stewart, and they can't be cured with
soda cookies. Sure! Why not? I mean... what could go wrong?
Relax
John and Mike. That last one isn't something you can solve, but everyone else
has taken a swing at it and I just wanted to be "one of the boys" as
it were. Now, in my best Porky Pig imitation, "Th-th-that's all folks!"
Be well
gentle readers, and remember to keep smiling. It looks so good on you!
